"It was pretty good. Most of them left home, though. Arthur was the first to go, and after that, they all just...followed." She nodded. "Don't know why I hadn't left yet. Guess I'm not as adventurous as the rest of them..."
As she turned the corner, she stepped in a puddle. Sighing, she shook her foot to get some of the mud off her boot, then beckoned to James again. "Not much farther now."

"You're leavin' home now though." He pointed out, grinning a bit as he looked around, hopping over the puddle. Yes, they were getting closer. He could just about smell the ocean, and he could already see some of the gulls flying through the air. Keeping his hands in his pockets he looked ahead. "It sounds nice though, having your siblings I mean. Even if they fought a lot... I never had a family..."
A small frown tugged at his grin, but after second thinking, the grin came back full force. Followed by another laugh. "Nah, wait, that's a lie. The crews my family!"

"This is true." She smiled and looked up to the sky, breathing in the salty air and soaking up the sun - she hadn't seen it in quite a while. "It was nice while they were around. I tend to get lonely now. You didn't? I'm so sorry, that must have been terrible..." She saw his demeanor change rapidly about three times, and then grinned.
"I'm glad you're so close to your crew. Who else is in it? What are they like?"

He laughed at her concern, kicking a stray rock. "Ah, I may've had one at one point. But I don't remember anything since I was ten. Captain says I probably landed on my head, and that it explains a lot."
His grin remained the same however, if anything, it grew brighter as he spoke. "Ah, well there's Arthur. And I doubt I need to tell you much 'bout him. Then there's Odin, he's the cook. He's really cool though, he kinda cries a lot... Ah, and there's Lily, who likes to lecture me a lot. She's our medic. She's a real sweet heart, kinda shy at first... She's gonna be thrilled to have another sheila on the ship! Then there's Alfred, he and the captain argue a lot. I like him though, sometimes he joins in pulling pranks on the other crew members."
He paused, counting them on his fingers. Who was he forgetting...
"Oh yeah! Will! Uh, he's just some little kid Arthur found. He had no home so I guess the captain adopted him?"

"That's terrible, I'm sorry..." Eira frowned a little bit, but then her smile came back as he began to describe everyone on the ship. She listened to him, occasionally laughing a little. It reminded her of all the times she'd ever had to describe her brothers and sister to people before. It was convoluted, but everyone was different. Arthur was stubborn. Blaine was brash and rude, Saoirse was motherly but didn't like to show it, Ramsey was quiet and always sick, and Peter was adventurous.
Will? Adopted? That was new. "Arthur...adopted a kid?"

To this question he shrugged. "I guess. I mean he kinda just showed up with him one day. And the kids been on the ship ever since."
He actually wasn't very sure on the details himself. Really he had just stumbled down one day to to kitchens to get something to eat, and there the little guy had been. James had been completely bewildered, but really was more focused on getting food then to question the matter. That and he had been half asleep.
"Your brother's a bit of a strange guy, what can I say mate?" He grinned at her, hands behind his head. He looked ahead, eyes lighting up as the familiar site of the harbor began to appear in the distance. Almost home!

"Oh..." She smiled. "That's actually kind of sweet." Thinking of Arthur as a father figure to anyone was kind of strange for her, but while it was implausible, it wasn't impossible.
"He is, but you get used to him. He's even pleasant once in a while. He makes good scones." Admittedly, that was about all Arthur made well, but hey, it was a start. Besides, that's what she was there for, anyway. His tea was okay, but it really didn't take much to make tea.
Excited, she pointed towards all the docked ships. "There's the harbor."

"I... Wouldn't call them that great..." James had almost died eating one of them. And he was still convinced he'd chipped his tooth on one. Of course, when he had mentioned it the captain had gotten angry.
One of these days James was going to end up tied to the mast, or something, for running his mouth. He was pretty sure of it.
Eyes lit up when he saw the harbor, scanning the docked ships. His eyes landed on a familiar one, James pointing it out as he picked his pace up a bit. "And there's the Grim!"

"I guess maybe it's because it's what I'm used to..." She saw the look on James' face change to one of almost disgust and raised a giant eyebrow. Pushing her glasses back up her nose, she laughed. A lot of people told Arthur his cooking was bad. Then again, people who weren't locals really didn't have much of a taste for their cooking at all.
She looked up at the ship as James pointed it out. It was a lot bigger than she imagined it to be - she'd never expected Arthur to be the captain of his own ship. Or the captain of anything, really. "The Grim? That's a creepy name..."

"Aye, The Grim, pirated by some of the dastardly pirates to ever roam the seven seas." He responded, dropping his voice into what he knew several of his fellow crew mates sounded like. From what he gathered, it was a stereotypical 'pirate-accent'. "Scum of the pirate world, that's what we are!"
Of course, he couldn't keep it up, and promptly laughed, throwing his head back and feeling tears prickle at his eyes. Oh yeah, like they could be 'scum' when their captain acted like a gentleman half the time. When the laughter died down he wiped the corners of his eyes, glancing at her as they walked down the docks. "Ah, just kiddin'. I don't know why the Hell our ships called that."

"Dastardly? I can't imagine Arthur doing anything dastardly." Maybe that was a lie. He always tried to be gentlemanly now, but when he was with Blaine and they weren't arguing, he was mischevious. Arthur cut her hair once in her sleep and it was terrible - it looked like someone had hacked at it with a knife. Her sister Saoirse thought quickly and cut her hair a little more evenly, hiding the back in a floppy white beret - something she cherished even to this day. "Okay, maybe he can be a little mischevious every once in a while."
She thought for a second - what had she read? "I think the Grim's a sort of mythological creature. Some kind of dog?" She followed him down the dock, looking up at the Grim. She wondered if anyone was out and about on deck. "Arthur?"

He laughed a little. He was sure Arthur was more than just a 'little mischievous every one in a while'. He could still remember the twinkle in the captains eyes the day Lily had first come onto their ship (with a nice bloke named Baldur, Odin's grandson). Arthur had just been itching for a fight. "Between you and me, I think your brother's just a delinquent underneath all that gentlemanly-ness... Probably why I stick around on the ship."
Reaching the deck he waved to some of the members, looking around curiously as he listened to her. "Ah, yeah. It's the omen of death, or something..."
Someone had explained it to him once, but James really hadn't paid attention. With a frown he looked around. No sign of the captain on deck. So that meant two things. He was either in his cabin, or out. James hoped for the first. "OI CAPTAIN! I'VE GOT A SURPRISE SO GET YOUR ASS OUT HERE!"

Closed up in his cabin, Arthur was intently plotting their next course - he'd heard word amongst the captains of Libertalia that the routes between europe and the south of africa were being used quite frequently again and since they hadn't had a good haul in a while, it was high time for his crew to keep in shape - when a suddenly hollering Australian broke his concentration, sending his pen zipping messily across the map in surprise.
Swearing up a storm under his breath, he hauled his jacket back on and nearly kicked down the door to his cabin."Dammit James! This better be important or I swear you'll be hanging off the side of the ship cleaning off barnacles!" he hollered back, stomping towards the edge of the ship and glaring down at his crewman.

Eira looked up at the ship - it was a lot bigger than she had ever expected Arthur to be able to control, but apparently he was the captain. The Captain. Wow. Hearing 'Arthur' and 'Captain' in the same sentence was still weird.
She looked up at the blond man who was now giving James a death stare from the edge of the ship. That was him, alright. He had aged considerably, but some things never changed. The scraggly, unruly blond hair, his giant eyebrows that they all shared. He dressed a little more lavishly now, but it was still him, yelling at people he thought was 'under him', just like old times. "Hello, Arthur." She gave her younger brother a wave.

"The day you carry out one of those threats mate, and I'll eat my hat." Really, James had lost track of how many times he'd been threatened with privy duties, scrubbing the barnacles off the side of the ship, or just being thrown off in general for angering the captain. The only real punishment he remembered was that time he'd pissed Arthur off when the captain was drunk... And James had woken up tied to the mast. Yeah, that hadn't been fun.
"Besides! I took the time and escorted a very special sheila all the way here for you!" Grinning he gestured to Eira, keeping in eye on Arthur in case the reaction was bad.
