Name: Raivis Galante
Country of Origin: Republic of Latvia
Gender Male
Age: 15
Height: 4'5 (140 cm)
Weight: 84 lbs
Appearance:
Crew member of: Arctic Winds
Status: Crew Member
Personality:
Raivis is a very shy boy, preferring to stay within the same circle of friends that he has always had. The rest of the world ends up falling in to two distinct categories. The first is the people that scare or at least intimidate Raivis, which is the majority of people. To these people, he will often say things in a fashion that is much too blunt or even accidentally say something that is insulting. In these nerve racking situations, he has almost no ability to pick up on social cues or body language and won’t understand that he is making the other person upset until it is too late. These ‘too late’ moments often end with him running off to cry.
The other type of person is more rare, but existent. When a new person doesn’t frighten him, he worries that he will ruin any chance at friendship by saying the wrong thing. This fear leads him to do a bad job of fully expressing himself, which can lead to him ruining the friendship anyway. As soon as the other person starts to show some sign of discontent, he will default to believing that he isn’t good enough for their friendship. When things start to sour he will sometimes tear up and will usually attempt to leave the area as quickly as possible.
Around the few friends he already has he is still shy, but is much more willing to communicate his feelings and concerns. It is mostly around these particular people that he will be calm and understandable. It usually takes a lot of work on the other person's side for a friendship to reach this level. Due to a severe lack of self worth, he is typically more comfortable when he is around his friends than when he is alone.
History:
Raivis was born to a unwed mother and a drifter who had no interest in being tied down with a kid. His father was out of his life before he was breathing. While his mother never seemed to resent the child, her family wasn't so loving. All of his extended family made it known to him that he was a mistake, something that was making his mother's life harder. His larger cousins could feel this climate and often hit him, receiving only a token punishment for any mistreatment of him. But through all that, he still had love from his mother, so he could on. His favorite memories with her were singing. When he sang with her, he felt the connection he lacked when she wasn't around.
But as he grew older, he started to really understand what they meant when they called him the family burden. He loved his mother and he didn't want to make her life harder. He was on the stairs when, in a moment of weakness, she expressed to her sister that she wondered how much easier her life would have been if she hadn't gotten pregnant. After all, he was a sign that she had gone against custom. Raivis thought he knew how to solve that problem.
The cold air had nipped harshly on his skin as he had stood on the edge of the bridge. He was smart enough to know how high he needed to be in order to ensure he would die and not just end up paralyzed and even more burdensome. He was ready to jump when he was knocked sideways by a man carrying a crate. Instead, it was the crate itself that fell, breaking the contents as surely as it would have broken his neck. Terrified of the wrath, he tried to run, no longer so intent on dying. He was caught in a manner of strides. It was explained to him that a life time of service couldn't make up for what he had broken. However, since that was all he could give, that's what they got. Shaky and unsure, he's hardly the ideal pirate, however there are certain tasks that are suited for his small body.
