Appearance: Lovino has dark brown hair that he keeps cut short except for one long curl that pokes out to the right that he can never seem to manage to brush back. His eyes are hazel but depending on the way the sun hits them, sometimes they look green - but they’re almost always frowning. His skin has been tanned rather dark from spending so much time outside and he has a very thin frame. On a general basis, he wears a lot of brown for practicalities sake, since he doesn't believe working on a ship full of men is worth dressing up for, with little to no decoration or jewelry.
Given the chance though, Lovino would dress up to the nines - he IS Italian, after all. Back when he ran with the mafia, suits, suits and more suits were the name of the game. From casual wear to dress wear, anything that would impress the pretty girls he'd try at least once. He carries a Beretta M 1951 on him - the only thing he kept on him after he deserted from his Family. He doesn't use it very often as one of his biggest fears is killing someone. And, finally, he has a Rosary around his neck.

Personality: Lovino didn't start out as a grouch in life. He wasn't nearly as sunny as his younger brother, but he was calm and quiet and loved his parents and family and his life. He changed after being kidnapped away from his family by the local mafia Family. Raised by a stern hand, he learned quickly not to open up about his feelings - but that didn't stop him from being cuffed upside the head as he couldn't help crying over how helpless he felt sometimes.
Now that he's free of that life, he's trying to put it all behind him. Not that that makes him any less of a grouch - in face, it makes him moreso as he's on such unfamiliar ground that any new experience sends him into a blustered attempt at looking like he does know what he's doing.
Despite the prickly exterior, there are quite a few things that Lovino likes. At the top of the list are tomatoes, pasta and pretty women. He hates German food and beer just as passionately, choosing to starve himself rather than eat it if given only that option. Covering up for the lack of experience with the opposite gender, he flirts shamelessly (and, for an Italian, rather poorly) - but he doesn't quite know what to do when the female reacts well to his attentions. He doesn't know why he's so easily flustered by men either - but he's pretty sure he's just scared of them.
Lovino wants to be religious. His parents raised him to be a devout catholic - the mafia raised him to be a devout atheist. He believes there is a god - but he also believes that sitting back and waiting for god to help him is pointless. Especially as he sins so much. He feels guilty over every sin - and whenever he gets the chance, he'll try and find a church to repent in, just in case god is watching him.
History: The first thing little Lovino remembered was staring up into the warm brown eyes of his grandfather Renato and the big smile on the man's face as he was held in equally warm arms. When he was young, he'd think back on it and wonder why his first memories were of the old man and not his parents. When the squalling brat Feliciano was born, he found those questions stopping as he no longer cared - he had a baby brother to look after.
He had a normal childhood - he was average in school, not very artistic or athletic or good at cooking. He loved his parents and his brother and chased after the bullies who claimed the tiny little boy was a girl. When he asked his mamma and papà one year about his odd memories, they revealed that he was adopted... and that Feli was his half-brother, not his full brother. That and his grandfather was actually his father. It shocked him into quiet - his parents, worried that there was something wrong with him, took him to church more often and tried to get him to play with the other children during sunday school.
Lovi was too young to know too much about his parents jobs. But he did know that after Renato stopped coming around, some bad men in suits showed up and mamma told him to hide Feli and stay safe. It took him years to realize that the odd noises he'd heard that night were his adoptive parents being shot down with a silenced gun. The men ransacked the house and managed to find him and no matter how hard he squirmed and cried, the bad men took him back to their hide-out and told him, while holding a gun to his face, that his parents owed them quite a bit. And that if he didn't want to die, he'd work off what they owed the mafia.
Without being given a choice, Lovino was put to work. He always wondered what happened to Feli - the little boy didn't arrive with him and his Boss never spoke of the darling little child. Over the years he was taught tricks - how to nick a wallet out of someone's pocket without them noticing. How to make it look like he was really sick so that the other kids he worked with could steal from a gathered crowd. How to load a gun and fire it. How to hate people so much that it made him sick.
Then, his Boss gave him a picture of a man he wanted Lovino to kill. He'd thought he'd be numb to the idea - he'd been around when other people were killed and it wasn't like he'd never seen a dead body before - but, up on that rooftop, alone and cold looking down the sight of a sniper rifle... he couldn't do it. He couldn't pull the trigger. Throwing the weapon, and his life as a member of a Family away, he ran as fast and as far as he could, knowing that as soon as his Boss caught on to his flight... knowing that if his former Brothers caught him... he'd be dead.
Allegiance: From the moment he joined with Antonio, he's been part of the Sky Pirates.
Sample Role Play: Tugging nervously on his tie, South Italy peered around every corner, out every window before even daring to venture outside. He'd felt for days like someone was watching him and it was making him so paranoid that he felt about ready to snap.
But, Spain had called him - had said that there was something important that he'd had to tell him... and, deep down where he'd never admit it to anyone ever - especially Veneziano as his chatty Northern brother would never leave him alone about it and wouldn't be able to not talk about it with the potato-loving bastard - he couldn't say no to Spain.
So, as casually as he could after making sure there was absolutely no one around, he ventured out his front door and into the streets. He hated being at war - hated having to send his boys off to fight for some cause he didn't believe in, for a reward that he feared would never come. Especially when it came to having France, let alone England as his enemies... he shivered, even though it was another hot day in the mediterranean.
"Oiiii~ Romano!" Spain's telltale voice called up from down the street. Turning - and no lips, do not smile. Seeing Spain alright doesn't make you happy! he had to tell himself - to face the older nation, South Italy folded his arms across his chest.
"What the hell did you call me out here for, you bastard?" he huffed, scowling. The bright smile that Spain sent him made him shiver again and he considered the fact that maybe being at war was making him sick.
"I have something to show you~!" the other nation came to a stop, mere steps away and started to shuffle through his pockets. "Now where is it..."
Romano opened his mouth to tell him off for being an idiot... but he never got the chance. There was a muffed bang behind him, a short, sharp burst of pain... and then nothing.
