Name: Maria-Estella Carriedo. Usually goes by Maria or Mame.
Country of Origin: Republika Ng Pilipinas/Republic of the Philippines
Gender Female, po.
Age: Seventeen
Height: 4'10'
Weight: 95lbs.
Appearance: A short, tanned girl with enough mutt features to make her something all her own. Her physical features are reminiscent of east asia, with a round face and short stature, accompanied with hair -- a dark, almost black brown -- and deep, earthy eyes. Her cheeks are more dimpled, however, than her Asian cousins and siblings. Supposedly, she looks very much like her sister Malaysia.
Maria is small in every (physical) sense. She is short and thin, with small hands, feet, and ankles. All the more to make her dances and song more graceful with her thin frame decorated in the vibrant colours of her nation's natural resources. Her commonplace attire comprises of a Baro't Saya; a two-piece outfit consisting of a white, short-sleeved blouse and a vibrantly coloured skirt and often an accompanying sash of the same pattern. The skirt can be layered, often with different patterns or solid colours. Her outfits vary, usually lightweight dresses that don't bring sweat in the heat of her country. She has a more formal outfit, in which the colours are often toned down to become more mature.
At all times, Maria-Estella has one or two Sampaguita flowers tucked behind her ear, or attached to a summery coloured headband. She keeps her hair off to the side, looped once to decrease the length and keep it out of the way when she's cleaning or working. When out completely, her hair meet's her hip at length. Personality: Philippines-tan, or Maria-Estella, is intelligent and a hard worker. . . when she's working. Once the bell has rung for her to take a break or leave for the day, her work attitude changes to her usual easy-going personality, who takes practically everything too lightly. She smiles a lot, often at nothing. As per habit of Filipinos, she seems to point at things with her lips or chin when referring to nearby items or people. . . it's a strange habit. Maria eats even stranger foods, however; every dish includes rice in some form, and often purple yams (Ube), red beans or red bean paste, or tomatoes -- but she has a fondness for hamburgers as well, thanks to Alfred. She has a habit of copying everyone else's product and selling them in her own country, and often to other countries. It's gotten her in trouble quite a bit. (She mostly copies Japan's products because he's good at making things; it's kind of like a way she gets back at him for being mean to her.)
She has a profound obsession with singing and music, and you can never visit her house without having to eat something during your stay there. Maria-Estella eats with her hands mostly, and when absolutely necessary to use cutlery, she resorts to a spoon and only a spoon. She's very short, being about 4'10" in terms of height. She has her proud moments where she can be stubborn, but gives up quite often and easily. When with friends, she'd rather be called 'Mame'. Nobody knows why, really. She loves nicknames, and is a bit obsessive-compulsive about cleaning. She's knowledgeable, surprisingly, when it comes to nursing and care, though any seriousness her intellect may earn her is lost in her lazy, easygoing manner. As a respectful speech habit, she ends some of her sentences in 'po'.
History: There were enough generations of farmers in Maria-Estella's family that they simply stopped counting by the time she came around, along with her older sister Malaysia, who basically raised her. They would grow beautiful, ripe crops with the help of the everlasting sunshine that shone on their land. And while the harvest would always fruitful, there were unlucky years spattering the calendars from frequent storms and typhoons that hit their home. Maria and her sister were close friends with Wang Yao, whom often traded with them for their crops or for labour work; both of which Maria was happy with. To this day, Yao remains a good friend of hers.
Because of a hard-hitting season of storms, Maria's family had little choice but to sell her off for work. She made an excellent worker for all sorts after all -- she was strong for a woman in this age, and knew a substantial amount on medical expertise and food. She was moved around different employers and ships, selling herself like something between a mercenary and a wench. She worked for the Spanish, the Americans, the Chinese and Japanese -- her language patterns have become incredibly warped from her multiple workplaces.
Out of all her employers, she favoured the Americans the most. Her time in the new world was priceless for her -- so much that she even picked up their habits. Maria has become a mess of traditions smashed together to create something all her own. She's moved from crew to crew, pirate or navy, working as a hench(wo)man, doctor and cook, but rarely as a fighter. It came out of her dislike for weaponry, after all, but she won't hesitate to use violence to put someone in their place. A broom can be deadly in her angered hands.
