On what felt like just another average mid-summer Thursday morning, Canada's alarm clock went off, like normal. As Matthew rolled over to hit the snooze alarm, however, he smacked his bare hand not on plastic, like he expected, but on flinching leather.
"Ow-"
Matthew opened sleepy purple eyes, the stray curl drifting across his hazy vision. His hand had landed on the device, as he expected, but between his palm and the snooze button, the Northern nation had somehow managed to find another hand, this one gloved. Its fingers twitched in a little wave, and, still a bit confused, Matthew turned his eyes upwards, following the attached arm until he could make out a grinning, red-eyed face.
"Guten morgen, liebling~"
Matthew blinked, now even more bemused, as it wasn't every morning he found the side of his bed occupied by fully-clothed Prussians. The French part of him was almost saddened by the fact that Gilbert was clothed, but the English part of him was simply surprised (and faintly worried) by the fact that the other had somehow gotten in his room while he was sleeping. Matthew shifted slightly, turning his head to the other and blinking slowly.
"...Gil? H-" he yawned suddenly, before he could help it, and was momentarily embarassed by the fact that the noise was louder than his normal voice by a long shot, even with his hand retreating from the clock to cover his mouth. The blurry albino in front Canada snickered quietly, and the blonde frowned lightly, wishing he had thought to grab Quebec so that he could see the ex-nation more clearly. "How'd you get into my house, eh?" he inquired, lowering his arm to rub out a kink in his neck, a sleepy hum escaping him as he started to sit up, "You didn't break in, right?"
The Prussian hummed, tilting his head and deliberately making a casual motion of brushing invisible crumbs off his pants as he replied, "Ja, about that--West owes you a new window."
Canada sat up abruptly, the quilt slipping off his chest, as he turned wide, incredulous eyes towards the European. "Eh?!"
Prussia cackled outright, waving his hand in a placating gesture in front of the other, "Nah, I just used the spare key." He looked up at the other, smirking, "The awesome me hasn't stuck around for so long just to risk your hockey-stick-of-death."
Matthew frowned, "Good thing, too--that might have done it;" The Canadian lowered his head, flushing slightly at having been so easily distressed, while Gilbert took a moment to allow his red gaze to graze over the other nation's lean and well-maintained figure, grinning in quietly ravenous appreciation that didn't completely go away when the other's violet eyes turned up to him again. Matthew paused, sensing at least somewhat that he shouldn't trust the Prussian's smile, before he asked, "How'd you know about my spare key, eh?"
Gilbert blinked, tilting his head slightly as his grin widened, "Don't remember, do ya?" The Prussian settled back against the mattress, bumping Canada's legs as he began making idle gestures with his hand and fingers, "You, me, Karneval in Quebec..."
Canada blinked, and then flushed abruptly, his shoulders hunching as he found himself suddenly wishing he had Kumajiji to hide his face behind. "o-oh..."
"Ja. Oh." Prussia's eyes glinted, and his mouth curled a bit to at least try and keep the cackle in, before his face suddenly lit up. "Oh! Ja! I got something for ya." He turned abruptly to the side that Matthew couldn't see, and pulled up a breakfast tray, practically beaming with pride, "I made pancakes~"
Matthew's eyes widened, and he looked over the warm, fluffy, golden pancakes with visible awe. "...maple?" he asked timidly, glancing up at Gilbert.
Gilbert laughed, producing a small jar of syrup dangling from his crooked finger, "As if the awesome me would forget~"
Canada barely restrained a noise of sheer glee, clasping his hands over the quilt, but Prussia was content with the other's happy smile. It made the small burns he had hidden under his gloves all the more worth it. Setting the tray down before the other, Gilbert liberally poured the maple syrup over the pancakes, watching the other's hungry expressions and drinking in the fruits of his labor, before setting the syrup down and taking up the fork.
Prussia suddenly shifted closer, and raised up a loaded fork to the blond's mouth. Canada leant back a bit in surprise, glancing up and blinking slightly. There was an awkward pause. Gilbert blinked, snorted lightly, and nodded his head towards the bite-sized portion, "Whatcha waiting for, Mattie, an invitation?" He grinned again, but it was a bit softer, just the tiniest bit unsure. This, more than anything, convinced Matthew to play along.
Canada opened his mouth, letting out a soft, playful 'ah' as he leant in, closing down on both the sound and the fork with an 'mm'. He stayed there for a moment, looking up at Prussia, and saw that the other's pale face had taken on an interesting flush, the usual grin conspiciously absent. Matthew smiled, letting out another small hum, before slowly withdrawing, not taking his eyes off the other's.
Gilbert blinked for a second, transfixed, before laughing abruptly, "Das war so niedlich - genau wie ein kleiner vogel!" He grinned broadly, still blushing just the slightest, and handed the fork over, gesturing to the food, "Eat up - we got a big day of kicking ass and being awesome ahead of us!"
Canada tilted his head, watching the other gesticulate as he cut up another piece of pancake with his fork. He took another bite, chewing slowly and savoring the maple, before swallowing, "What's the occasion, eh?"
Gilbert paused in what was building into a Grand Master Plan of Awesome to glance over, his mouth frozen mid-word. He blinked a bit, eyebrows drawing up. "...Was, did you think the awesome me would forget about your birthday?"
Matthew halted mid-chew. Blinked. Blinked again. Scooping up Quebec from the nightstand, Canada placed the glasses on his face, turning towards a nearby calendar. He tilted his head, swallowing what remained of his bite. "...oh...that is today, isn't it..."
Prussia stared, and then, he began to chuckle, letting his hands fall between his knees, "Liebling, you honestly...?" He tilted his head, grinning slightly.
Matthew flushed, and hid his flush behind another bite of pancake. Gilbert chuckled softly, and leant in, surprising the nation once the fork was out of the way with a kiss.
"Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Mattie. <3"
Canada smiled back, and replied, to Prussia's surprise, "Danke schön, Gilbert. <3", before placing another bite of pancake to the Prussian's lips.
