He really had to stop doing this. He really had too. Or at least, that’s what Afonso told himself as he wandered aimlessly through Brazil’s rain forest, a trusty map in one hand, his compass in the other, his pack strapped to his back, and an ever present head ache accompanied by déjà vu. Really, he had to stop giving into his temptation to explore. He had too. At least, this is what he told himself. But Afonso knew quite well that the moment the temptation rose again, he would most likely take it.
Though maybe next time Afonso would bring a better map. The one he had was out to date it seemed, the Portuguese man pausing every so often, pulling his pencil out from where he kept it nestled in his ponytail, drawing new additions to his out-of-date map. It was practically covered in pencil marks.
“Maybe if I go northeast from here…” He mumbled, cocking his head to one side as he held his map out. “Ah, that should bring me closer to the Amazon…”
With a nod to himself, Afonso checked his bearings, before folding the map up and tucking it and his compass into his pants pocket. So what if he got a little turned around? He had a course now! Everything would be fine!
His foot caught on an outgrown root. And before the Portuguese man could regain his balance or react, he was sent tumbling forward, down the small incline, and straight into a clearing. Dazed, he laid there for a moment, staring up at the canopy before slowly sitting up to rub his already aching head.
He would have been content to just sit there, holding his splitting head, for a few more minutes. But the sudden clicking of a gun caught his attention, Afonso swallowing a sudden lump in his throat. “Merda…”
He really had to stop doing these things...

Antonio Carriedo traipsed through the jungles of Brazil himself, his boots sticking in the miserable mud. He'd been on a visit once or twice before, but he was hoping this time to plunder...of course he'd ended up lost. Having no navigator was the worst.
However, he wasn't expecting to hear all that rustling. Rustling, and moving, and--oh. There was someone here? A man, with dark hair pulled into a ponytail. He was laying down, his head in his hand--Antonio frowned. Could be dangerous. So he stepped forward, cocked his pistol, and pointed it at his head. "State your name and alliance before I have to kill you."

Lovino swore as yet more water fell down the back of his shirt - it seemed as if the entire rain forest was against him - water kept falling on him, he kept slipping in the mud (and now his pants were dirty up to the knees, he cringed, feeling desperate for a bath), and he could feel the creepy animals staring at him, even if he couldn't see them right away.
Following Antonio was supposed to keep him out of danger - so why did he feel as if he was stepping into it even more? Frowning at his Boss's back as he trudged along, he too heard noises in the forest around him and nervously upped his pace so he was right behind the spaniard.
And then a person fell out of the forest and he nearly screamed, very thankful that Antonio had things under control by threatening the man. Honestly - he just wanted to go back to the ship!

Afonso just stared dumbly at the man holding the gun at him, then the other man behind him. Blinking, he cocked his head to one side, before taking a sudden intake of air. Green eyes became wide, the pain in his head doubling, Afonso once again gripping his skull, feeling as if it was going to split in two. A scene was playing in his mind, but it was on mute. And the Portuguese man could not help but think the man in the scene, who was addressing him, looked at awful lot like the man pointing the gun at his head.
What was this? He had never had anything like this happen before. A memory? But how could he have a memory of this? He had no recognition of any of this happening before. But then just what was it? Afonso had no idea, and just as quick as the strange scene begun, it ended. Leaving Afonso nearly doubled over oh the forest floor, his breathing coming quick. It must have looked strange, a voice muttered as he recalled the two other men. Slowly he straightened, lowering his hands from his head and trying to shake away the incident as he addressed the other men. "Af-Afonso Joao De Gabriel Silva... As for alliance... I um, came here on a trade ship. But I'm just a traveler..."
A sheepish smile formed. "Oh and uh, sorry about that... I suppose I've been out in the sun far too long."
It was a stupid excuse, but hey, maybe that would keep them from wondering if he was insane.

Antonio let the pistol fall, tucking it back in his sash. Really, in all honesty, he probably wouldn't have done anything to the man--if he really felt like killing him, he would have just taken his head off with the axe resting over his shoulder. "Mm. A long name, I see."
The Spaniard looked down at the map in his hands--it was detailed, and looked well kept. He cocked his head, a smile on his face. "Are you a navigator?"

Oh crap. Lovino thought. He knew that expression and that tone to know what was starting to go through the spanish captains head.
And of course it was centered on someone who was rather obviously crazy - something that Boss clearly couldn't see for himself... thus why the man put his gun away. Nervously, he placed his hand on his own pistol - unused as of yet - and bristled, but held his peace.
Maybe Antonio wasn't thinking what Lovi was thinking he was thinking... or something like that.

Afonso just stared for a good minute. After that strange little episode... All this guy had to comment on was that his name was long (which he agreed full-heartedly), and if he was a navigator. That was it!?
Though, from the looks of it, the guys companion had not missed the strange attack. Yup, Afonso was sure the guy with the weird curl thought he was mental...
"I guess you could say I am... Why?"

A broad smile crossed the Spaniard's face, and he held out his hand to help the other up. Oh sure, he had noticed the moment--but brushed it off. Sometimes the crazy ones were the best, after all. Still grinning, he shook Afonso's hand and said, "My name is Antonio Carriedo, captain of La Madre Maria. I'm looking for a navigator for my ship."

"Boss." Lovino hissed under his breath. "That might not be the smartest idea." Mentally, he was groaning because he'd been right. Sometimes, he really worried about his captain...

"The La Madre Maria..." He echoed, blinking slightly. The name sounded familiar but... Oh that was it! He had seen the ship before, while on a Spanish boat. He had thought they would be attacked... But it turned out the La Madre Maria seemed to avoid attacking Spanish ships.
He stared at the others hand, before slowly taking it, standing up. Eyes glanced over to the other man with the strange curl, who did not seem pleased, before back at Antonio. There was something strange about them both, and yet familiar... And maybe, a clue of sorts to the strange dreams? Maybe.
With a small, almost teasing, smile, he glanced at the two, arms crossed over his chest. "You're asking a total stranger, whom you've just met, to become your navigator? Bit reckless of you Captain."

"No the in the front, chico." he corrected--how weird. He had only been in this man's company five minutes and they already felt like...like brothers. Smiling, he elbowed his companion in the ribs, then winked. "I've always been reckless. This is my first mate, Lovino. Welcome aboard."

The hand that wasn't resting on his gun came up to smack himself in the forehead as he groaned - partly because he knew that would happen and partly because he hadn't known his captain for so long that he should be able to predict that the man would act like that. With an exasperated and rather annoyed sigh, Lovino tugged lightly on the spaniards sleeve.
"Boss... could I talk to you for a sec?" he gestured with his head as he wasn't willing to relinquish the hold on his gun quite yet. "Over there?"

Antonio tilted his head, hearing the voice of his beloved first mate beside him. With a warm smile he chirped, lacing his fingers through the hand resting on his sleeve, "Sure, Lovi!"
With that said, the Spaniard trotted over to a corner away from the Portugese man, smiling cluelessly at Lovino, "Okay, what is it, amado~?"

He sucked in a breath, trying to ignore the tingling that went up his arm as Antonio laced their fingers together - no! He would not be distracted! Finally they got far enough away that he felt he could speak his mind.
"Are you out of your fucking mind?!?!" he stage whispered - in other words, nearly yelled at the top of his lungs. "He's insane! You don't know who he is - or how he'd react being at sea for long periods of time! For fucks sake, what if he turns into a - an axe murderer who tries to kill us in his sleep!" He vented, his nervous feelings making his voice's pitch raise up.
Paranoid? No, not at all.

Antonio chuckled a little, leaning up to ruffle his hair, "Axe murderer? Aww, Lovi, don't worry, Cortes and I have got that covered." The Spaniard smiled, gesturing to the very large axe over his shoulder, then laughing at his own joke. He leaned down to Lovino's level, nose brushing his, then spoke lowly, "Trust me, Lovi. If I'm your captain, you have to trust me, right?"
