Renato, for certain, isn’t considered an Italian beauty in the most common sense. He isn’t slim, pretty, or by any modern standard anything to get a second glance at. But, that is his choice - believing in the Old Ways where musculature was considered a thing of great beauty, he has the physique of a body builder and a deep tan on his skin from a lifetime spent out of doors in the Mediterranean. He keeps his dark brown hair cut short - except for two curls of hair, one growing off the upper right side of his head, the other off the lower left) - to tame it as it’s curly and grown out would be too much of a mess to control. For the most part he has a bit of a beard as when he’s out at sea he couldn’t be bothered to shave, but when he’s finally docked into a port he’ll shave just once before heading back out. The most noticeable feature on his face are his eyes, which are a brilliant amber color that have this near constant happy shine to them, making them glow an almost gold.
Clothing wise, his taste in all things Ancient reflect in the way he dresses. He can and does wear more modern clothes, but out at sea he’s frequently seen wearing a toga under his captains jacket (or with a long red cape on). If he’s certain that he’s going to be in a battle of some sort, he’ll dig out his old armor, which he had tailored years ago to fit. He found it increasingly amusing over the years to startle those he was battling by suddenly appearing as if he’d just waltzed out of a war from two thousand years ago.

Personality:In a way, Renato’s grandsons have both taken after him. Feliciano got his normal pep and cheer, enjoying life and art and... natural thick-headedness. He can be very charming when he wants to be - his many affairs with women (and men) attest to that, as well as the broken hearts left behind. He has a shine for life, an addiction to having fun and the tiniest ability to read the atmosphere. Lovino took on his more aggressive side, just lacking in his courageous verve to follow through. Renato can be difficult and he can be mean, he really only does it if someone or something provokes him.
And, as mentioned, unlike his two grandsons he’s brave - if something difficult happens, or if someone threatens him or someone he cares about, he won’t back down. He’s the type to charge in, ready to kick the ass of the offender and save the day. He’s not a hero - he’ll stab you in the back just as much as have a face-to-face battle - he’s a warrior, tough and strong. It doesn’t take a lot to rile him up, but in a split second, he can go from up-in-your-face to relaxing and sunny, making pasta and listening to music.
History: Thirty years ago, sixteen year old Renato woke up one morning and went ‘Ah! I remember this!’. Unlike most of the other reborn nations, he regained his memories early on in life and now can see another nation, know who they are and just KNOW things. He knows he’s technically not a Nation anymore and he knows that technically he shouldn’t exist anymore... for a long while in his teenage years, he wondered why he continued to be reborn - and then found one day that he didn’t care. He loved to be alive, and if that meant he was cheating off an afterlife, well, who was he to argue with what God wanted from him?
Knowing that he really had no duties or loyalties to his lands anymore gave him a sense of freedom he’d never been able to acquire while he’d been the Roman Empire. He left home and wandered, spending years regaining the strength he’d had all those years ago. In his travels, he had many a one night stand, always leaving the next morning to continue his adventure, up until he hit the sea and decided that it was high time he jumped on it.
Joining up with a merchant crew, he found a love for the water he’d never had before, always having gone over the continent to do most of his conquering. He didn’t care if he was doing something that the Roman Empire would consider demeaning - it was tough work and he was tough enough (and free enough) to do it. Saving up the money he made, he returned to land, prepared to buy a new set of armor, something he’d wanted since he was young.
But, arriving in the italian port brought a surprise - a child. The little boy, no older than three, reminded him that even though he wasn’t a Nation anymore, they were still being born, still living their lives. It was his little Lovino that caused him to step away from the ocean’s freedom. And the sudden remembrance that he had one more ‘grandson’ that wasn’t around. One of the sailors that he’d traveled with came to him with a request one day - having proven to be infertile, he was begging his good friend to help give his wife the child she always wanted.
He agreed, but not before having them promise to take Lovino in as well. He would pretend to be the boy’s grandfather - even if he wasn’t THAT old, just yet. Doing as he’d promised, nearly nine months later, there he was - his adorable little Feliciano. Leaving the happy parents to their children, he wandered the land again, never going to far and nearly settling down.
Then, he heard the bad news. His friend and his wife, dead. Lovino, missing. And Feliciano, arriving one morning on his doorstep, needing the love of his grandfather to get over the shock. He raised the boy much as he had in a previous lifetime, feeling proud as the boy began to grow. But, that need to return to the ocean grew and grew over the years - a place that he was certain his grandson would never survive. Packing up one morning and leaving no note, he vanished back out to sea, knowing that both Feli and Lovi would survive, if not this lifetime than the next.
Back out on the ocean, he used the money he’d saved up to buy himself a ship and a crew. But, instead of being a merchant like he had before, he went for a different, faster money making scheme. After all, someone had to send money home to Feli so he could continue to live in his happy existence! He quickly picked up pirating - after all, conquering and pirating were very close to being the same kind of skill.
Years passed and Renato found himself in possession of two pieces of that legendary treasure’s map - something that made other pirates jealous of him and try to sink his ship, steal his pieces. He didn’t let that bother him, continuing on with his ways, sacking and looting and having fun. Then, on one run, his crew was taking down a merchant ship freshly out of the English channel when one of his map pieces flew away from him. Startled beyond belief, he turned away from the man he’d just killed and found himself very close to an equally startled Britannia - wait. No. In this lifetime, he was called England. - whom the piece had chosen.
Unwilling to kill the boy - he really was a boy, not much older than Feliciano - he knocked him out and did the next best thing to ending his life. For the next few years, the young Arthur (who had no memories of their past lives... which was really good, because Renato wasn’t sure what he’d make of England being even more prickly than he was already) was first his slave, then his crewman and eventually his first mate and lover. But, all good things came to an end eventually - Arthur needed the freedom that Renato had, so when he caught them a good ship (even if it was spanish in origin), he gave it to the blond, giving him back his map piece and waving goodbye to the new captain.
And once again, he sails the seas, free and searching for the adventure of a lifetime - finding the Legendary Treasure.

Sample Roleplay: He'd been weakening for years - could feel an ache in his bones that he'd been hiding from all the other nations and empires that surrounded him. He'd thought he'd done a good job, thought he'd be able to continue on for another century or so before the pain got so great that he'd just fall over and be forgotten... but, the Roman Empire decided that maybe he was finally out of luck.
He'd turned the moment he'd heard the distinct 'shing' of a weapon leaving it's sheath. There was Germania - one of his oldest friends turned enemy - stepping towards him with a determined gait and a look in his eyes that the world weary empire couldn't help but recognize. After all, he too had had that conquering bloodlust once upon a time. "Germania." he greeted, quirking his lips in a bit of a smile.
The other man nodded back, the look in his eyes unchanging. "Huh... can you do me one last favor old friend?" Rome called, sighing heavily. "Can you make sure to hide my body away? I don't want Feli or Lovi finding it. They're both too young for this sort of thing."
The sword was held high, glinting in the cool morning light. It was like a beam from heaven, coming to take him to his final stop. It was... strangely peaceful for the Roman empire - he wasn't afraid of dying as he had been in his youth. Germania gave no sign that he'd listened to a word Rome had said - but that was normal.
It fell. There was pain. But that all went away so quickly.
