Personality: Alfred is a very energetic and cheerful young man, though at times he can seem rather conceited. Alfred has a huge hero complex and strives to do his best to save and protect people who are in trouble. But because of this, he has a hard time making friends because he tends to force his way into other people’s business. He means well of course, but he just comes off quite pushy and demanding.
His lack of reading the atmosphere in situations probably does not help his case any, but in the past he has shown that he can read it to some extent. Whether he takes the time to actually notice it or just chooses to ignore it is debatable.
He is an active young man, always running around playing games with children and exercising to keep in shape so that he can get stronger. He does not want to rely on anybody else to have to help him, and wants to be prepared whenever someone requests his help.
He has a severe thirst for adventure, which is what drew him to the sea in the first place. Hearing stories and myths of foreign lands intrigued his imagination and made him want to go out into the world and experience his own. Finding remnants of the past also gets him quite excited since he is a self-proclaimed archaeologist.
Despite his over eagerness to check out ancient places, he has one flaw that tends to put a damper on exploration… He has a rather irrational fear of ghosts. If a place is said to be haunted, Alfred will shake and jump at every single thing as he explores. Often times, the exploration ends with Alfred fleeing all together if he is alone. Never the less, Alfred’s fear is conflicting since he also is enamored with Ghost stories. So perhaps that is why he at least attempts to explore those places, even if he is quite scared of them.
Alfred tends to get lost a lot due to not being able to read maps all that well. But it does not deter him from trying. His lack of knowledge about the outside world can be rather irritating to other people, but he remains mostly oblivious to it. Something that helps him when getting lost is his ability to eat just about anything. It doesn’t matter how horribly prepared it is, Alfred can usually stomach it.
History: As a child, Alfred was as active and curious as ever. His curiosity however, lead him into getting lost and separated from his parents at a young age. When he couldn’t find them, a young man from England took him in and helped to at first find his parents…but eventually began to raise him when the search proved unsuccessful.
Alfred was sad at first that he could no longer be with his parents and little brother and he missed them dearly. But he felt that lingering in the past was getting him nowhere, so instead he tried to make the best of the cards he was dealt. Instead of looking to the past, Alfred looked straight ahead to the future, vowing that one day he would try to find them again.
His life with the stranger was enjoyable. He was a lonely man, all alone on an adventure of sorts. He would often tell Alfred marvelous tales of the high seas and made up tales ranging from ghosts to heroes saving princesses. Alfred was fascinated by these tales, and took to them easily. Often he would fantasize about being a hero saving damsels in distress…and eventually started declaring himself a hero.
One story stuck out to the boy though. The legend of a ancient treasure lost to time. He would imagine himself sailing the seas, having all sorts of adventures ranging from sword fights to fighting imaginary monsters in his quest for it.
Over the years, he and his caretaker got very close and Alfred loved him dearly. But as soon as Alfred could start caring for himself, he began to leave for longer periods of time, returning to his adventures. Alfred got lonely without his caretaker around, but still not being one to linger in the past, he tried to make a difference around his home and started helping people around his town.
A strong bond was forged and before Alfred knew what happened, he found himself inexplicably tied to these wonderful people and got a strong sense of patriotism towards them. He was oblivious to his own nature though…oblivious to the reason why he felt so tied.
As Alfred would grow older, he would begin to experience bouts of déjà vu often, mostly where history was concerned. He could not explain it off, but he grew intrigued by the history of his home and delved further into it. He could recall some events vividly despite never having lived it…felt things he never experienced personally. He felt like he was in a strange fairy tale like the ones his caretaker used to tell.
He began to wonder if there were others like him out there…People who could tell him the truth about this strange anomaly.
He finally made the decision to leave his home and set sail for new lands, multiple reasons supporting his desire. Adventure, family, and answers he needed to find.
He left nothing more than a note for his caretaker telling him that he decided to follow in his footsteps and begin his own adventure.
Did you read the rules? Who is a Beastie?: Jack Sparrow!
( I might have gone overboard. My apologies for the length. )
