Sadik Adnan, sole heir to the Adnan family's wealth, was somewhat of a local celebrity. He had been gone nine years now, and this was his first trip back to his home. Still though, people were stopping to greet him, saying how much he'd grown, how mature he looked. It made him happy to be recognized, and for people to seem so cheerful to see him. It was a good feeling, the feeling of belonging that was always associated with the city. Everything looked almost the same as it had when he left, nothing ever changed here. He could see his house rising up in the distance, a beautiful manor of sorts, one of the largest in the city. His parents had definately had the money to spend on such things, although they did so sparingly. The house had been one of the few luxuries they had owned, never wanting their son to grow up spoiled like many other wealthy children.
Even now that all their money was his, he refused to spoil himself senseless. It was pointless, you couldn't buy happiness, even for yourself. Sure, he spent quite a bit here and there on outfits and things to make himself more "fashionable" but he hardly counted that as spoiling himself. He was still careful with his money, and made sure he spent enough on food and supplies and shelter. He had also spent some on gaining a better education, going to schools on and off to learn history and language. It was really a grand thing he had done in leaving, but it still felt good to be back. There were rumors of strangers that had passed through the city, and could still have been there. Pirates apparantly, although Sadik barely believed the rumors. There was nothing in the city to interest pirates, as far as he was aware.
Unless his parents had made enemies he didn't know of, and he was now being tracked. He picked up his pace heading for home quickly, keeping careful eyes on his surroundings. It didn't take long for him to arrive at the gates of his house, sighing when he noted that nothing seemed to be disturbed. Slowly he pushed the front gate open, smiling at the familiar squeaking groan it emitted. He stepped into the courtyard with a wide smile on his face, dropping his guard almost completely. He stood out in the yard, staring up at the house. It looked empty, which meant that perhaps the servants had all left, imagining that their "master" wasn't really coming back for them. All the same, it felt good to be back home, even if there was talk of strangers.
If only the rumors had been false.
