Gilbert easily caught the man as he wobbled and nearly fell, the hand not holding the ladder easily catching around the man's waist and holding him tightly. Of course, he didn't realize that was a slightly awkward and intimate way to be holding someone he had just met, and he kept his hand there for the rest of the ride up to the ship. As they reached the docks, he helped the fancily-dressed aristocrat climb off of the ladder and onto the docks before climbing up himself and beginning to step toward his ship with long strides.
"We're going to have to get you some new boots," he sneered a little, glancing down at the other man's shoes. "Before you fall and break your neck or something."
He quickly reached the gangplank leading up to the ship, and climbed it, stepping swiftly onto the railing of the ship as he reached the top and spreading his arms wide.
"Ich bin zu Hause!" he announced to a few crew members working on the deck, grinning widely. They greeted him with grunts and brief hellos before returning to their work. He hopped down onto the ship and took a few steps toward the stairs leading down into the ship.
"Katushya!" he shouted down to her, fists on his hips. "Ich bin zu Hause! I brought us a navigator! Is lunch ready? The awesome me is hungry!"

The hold around his waist was, shall he say, embarrasing. His cheeks, he felt, started to burn red and he looked away as if trying not to get caught. When they made it on the docks, roderich scowled at the remark. Truth be told, he loved the boots he was wearing. They only had a slight heel on them. Why should he get new ones? he shruged it off, and finally made it onto the ship. If he really needed to get new boots, he might as well suck it up. But in now way was he happy about it.
The awesome me? Was this guy joking? Roderich flattend his clothes and tried to make himself presentable. He took his glasses and rubbed off some smuges that were on them, slightly nervous of being here.

Yekaterina looked up from the large saucepot, pausing in her low humming but continuing to stir.
"Ah, Kapitan! Laskavo prosymo!" The Ukrainian greeted, giving the other her customarily sweet smile and a small wave. "Ah, soup lunch is soon in coming, no worries!" She then turned curious eyes to the newly hired navigator, and then tilted her head, blinking. 'Such fine clothes!'
Uneasily, Katushya was reminded of her old host family. They were perhaps not quite as rich as this young man seemed to be, but there was enough similarity in his fussy demeanor that she could feel her posture immediately straighten up, as though she still wore a maid's dress instead of overalls, and didn't have a large cannon-gun beside the sink.
Yekaterina managed to mask her sudden discomfort, as she bobbed her head to the Austrian. "Pryvit, and welcome. Please be making yourself comfortable." Turning her attention back to the almost finished meal, she nervously hoped that her country cooking would suffice;;

Gilbert continued to grin down into the depths of the ship at his cook, watching her hard at work for a while, before he turned his attention back to the new navigator.
"I don't have much of a crew at the moment," he admitted a bit sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. "So the only person there really is to introduce you to is Katushya."
He gestured below the deck to the girl humming a bit as she worked on the soup for lunch.
"But come on, lemme show you the map," he grinned now, pushing off with his heels and walking up toward the helm of the ship, a bounce in his step as he climbed the stairs two at a time. He reached the helm, and opened a secret compartment below it, which contained the rolled up map he had been looking at upon his arrival. He pulled it out and unrolled it on a small table bolted to the floor near the helm, beckoning the new navigator over to come and see.
"Isn't it a gorgeous map?" he crooned, looking at it admiringly. He pointed to a spot on the map, "This is where we are now, obviously. I want to stop in Italy next, before heading east toward the Grecian ruins. From there, we're going south toward these little islands off the east coast of Africa."
He grinned up at the man across the table. "What do you think?"

Smiling at the young girl, he took her hand and placed a delecate kiss on it, bowing slightly. "it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. My name is Roderich Edelstien." he then said, turning to follow the captain in the other direction. Unlike his blond captain he took smaller more uninviting steps. They came to the helm and Roderich took a sneak at what the other was taking out.
His eyes widened slightly, and he nodded his head. "but... Were exactly is our desination?" he cleared his throat. He usually navigated when there was a desination at hand. Maybe he should have mentioned that earlier...

Gilbert looked at the man a bit foolishly for a moment before gesturing grandly to the map again.
"Well, we don't really have an exact destination right now, since we're just looking for clues to finding this treasure!" he explained quickly, pointing at spots on the map as he began to ramble, explaining all of the places he had already searched by himself, before he gathered a crew or a proper ship, and all of the places he had searched since he got the ship.
When he finally stopped talking, he leaned back on his heels and let out a long, heavy sigh. He lifted his hat from his head and ran a hand through his hair, brushing it back and out of the way before replacing the tricorn. The little chick sitting atop it hopped to the edge and began to peep at him, angry at him for disturbing her slumber.
"So," he paused, glancing up at the Austrian man. He asked again, "What do you think?"

Roderich slowly reached out and poked the small chick that plopped onto the desk with a shaky hand. He thought it was oddly cute and round, and oh he was still talking? Snapping his attention back to the blonde, he nodded. "yes sounds good." he looked away. a treasure...? That sounds absolutely extravagant... he couldn't help but stare into space, thinking about what this treasure was and unexpectedly leaned back and almost toppled onto him. He cauht himself however and cleared his throat. "hm. Exuse me."

Gilbert didn't notice the other man almost falling into him as he swooped down and picked up the little chick and cradled her gently in his palms, petting her head with one finger and cooing to her softly. However, he quickly remembered that the other was there, and set the small bird back onto his hat, where she peered over the edge carefully, watching the Austrian man with interest.
"Alright, then! Before we get going, let me introduce you to my first mate! We just picked him up in Berlin before we came here," he started, rolling up the map and tucking it away before trodding down the stairs toward the cabin and officer's quarters. He flung open the door, announcing his arrival with a loud shout, and waved for the new navigator to follow him.
"He's a bit of the strong silent type, but I think he'll be alright once you get to know him," he grinned in a very care-free manner and leaned into another room, grinning at the blond that was sitting inside.
"Hey, Ludwig! Come meet the new navigator!"

Ludwig frowned as his reading was interrupted by Gilbert. Honestly, was there ever any time for quiet study on this ship? With Gilbert as the captain, probably not.
"Welcome back, Kapitan," he replied, setting his book aside and standing. "What was that about a navigator?" Seeing the other man, he tilted his head to one side, studying him. He did look like a good navigator; he was quite intelligent-looking, after all. But his clothes and general demeanor told Ludwig that he was unprepared for this sort of life. Probably he just wanted to get on this ship to escape whatever situation he was in. But he supposed it didn't matter. Gilbert would fix that, in due time.
"Good day, sir; my name is Ludwig," he introduced himself, holding out his hand for the Austrian, doing his best not to let the overwhelming familiarity bother him. This had happened twice before, after all; he should be used to it by now. "What is your name?"

Roderich scuttled off the the side, and gave a small smile after apologizing. He was then waved into another room to meet his first mate. He wondered what the man might look like, and was quite exited about meeting him.
He briskly shook the other mans hand, also examining him with a smile. "I am Roderich Eldestien, sir." he retrieved his hand and bowed slightly. He noticed Ludwig staring at him, and he felt out of place. Maybe he needed to look rougher, should he wear an eyepatch? he frowned at that thought.

Gilbert grinned widely as he leaned against the door frame, peering into the blond's room with no small amount of curiosity.
"What were you reading, Ludwig?" he asked in a slightly sing-song tone, trying to lean into the room, but being blocked by the man's massive muscles taking up most of the doorway. He sighed and leaned back out into the hallway, looking the navigator over again and wondering what was going through his head - he had an odd thoughtful expression, frowning a bit.
"Anyway, I want to get going soon, so get up on deck," he waved a hand dismissively at Ludwig as he started back out onto the main deck. He paused to glance over his shoulder at the new navigator, all captain and business on his face now. "We're heading toward Italy next, so make sure you get the course mapped out. I'm going to go talk to Katushya about dinner; I'm starved."
He exited onto the main deck and quickly took the stairs down into the kitchen. He paused at the bottom, not seeing his chef anywhere in sight, and called out.
"OI, KATUSHYA! THE AWESOME ME IS HUNGRY~!"

Katushya had finally finished the soup, and was skimming through the pantry for a few bottles of seasoning, when the Kapitan's loud voice startled her into nearly dropping them. "Eep!" Barely managing to catch them all against her chest, Yekaterina sighed in relief, before craning her head out of the pantry.
"Ah, coming!" Taking only a small second to double-check that what she caught was what she wanted, Yekaterina hastily put back one bottle and bustled out, making for the steaming pot. She took a moment to nod to the Kapitan, "Almost done~" Setting down the bottles, she uncorked one full of red powder, pouring a small amount into her hand and tossing it in.
After lightly stirring, the cook lifted her spoon, tasting. "... Mm! Tak dobre~ Is like batko used to make. <3" Smiling in satisfaction, the Ukrainian grabbed a nearby bowl, ladling out a decent portion of the soup before handing it over to the Kapitan. "First taste is yours, pryrodno."
Preparing more bowls for the men that would surely be coming down, adding bits and pieces as per each man's tastes, Katushya tilted her head to the Kapitan. "Ah, how is new navigator taking to ship?" Honestly, the well-dressed and gentile-mannered man did not seem to be the normal sailing type, but then, up to a few weeks ago, she wouldn't have been, either.
Tak dobre = So good Batko = Father Pryrodno = Naturally
