The Lithuanian sighed in quiet frustration, running a hand through his hair. Much as the other tried to hide it, Toris couldn’t help but hear the Prussian’s hesitance to leave, and he felt a twinge of empathy.
“Taip, you’re probably right. I mean, there’s always something important that needs to be done the next day, when you are a captain, ne?” Even if it was only captain by the loosest definition, on the strict terms of a man who never felt it necessary to explain anything, in yet expected complete obedience and instant results.
That twinge of empathy turned to indignation, suddenly, as he thought how infuriating it was feeling bound by Ivan when the Russian wasn’t even in the room. Toris set his mouth, and in a moment of defiance, decided that if Ivan was going to keep secrets, it was only fair he had at least one thing that was his own.
“Tell you what, Gil, you head off and get some sleep on your end, I’ll do the same on mine, and I’ll call you tomorrow, alright? We’ll be over Australia, so I’m not sure how that measures up with your planned time-zone, but we can work something out.”
Toris smiled brightly in the dark, a rush of electricity and confidence that was almost adrenaline coursing through him, as though he was deliberately provoking the Russian himself. “After all, you went through all this trouble to find me, ne? It’s only fair I try to keep in touch.”

Gilbert was, to say the least, surprised by the sudden determination and almost defiant tone in the others' voice. There was even a small tinge of pride mixed in, and Gilbert, while confused, was proud of the other for apparently standing up to whatever forces wanted to keep him from doing his own thing.
"Ja, that sounds good. I mean, I'm not sure where we'll be tomorrow, but it doesn't matter; I'll answer if you call," at this point, Gilbert didn't realize that he sounded a bit like the desperate girlfriend, offering to pick up the phone at any hour of the night, as long as she got to talk to her boyfriend for just five minutes. "Und tomorrow, maybe we can arrange a time to meet for drinks? There's this great bar in Tortuga..."
He paused here, thinking about his previous offer and wondering if it sounded a bit too much like a date. Quick to amend any thoughts the other might have had - there was no way he wanted to date the Lithuanian - he barreled on ahead.
"I hear it's a good place to pick up crew members, too, so you could always scout while you're there."

Toris tilted his head, a genuine half-smile that was in danger of becoming a full-fledged grin quirking the side of his face, as he chuckled and nodded in the dark, “That sounds good to me. We were planning on heading towards Tortuga any way, before we hit South America.”
Perhaps it was a bit rash stating where the Metall Podsolnuh was planning to go to a rival captain, but right now Toris was still a bit heady from the rush of being able to finally do something that Ivan had little part of. In addition to that, the Lithuanian couldn’t help but trust Gilbert—whether it was some sort of pirates honor, the instinctive allowance of a new friendship, or some sort of deeper instinct that Toris didn’t quite understand, he felt that while he and the Prussian would definitely clash, ultimately, the other wouldn’t betray him.
Wouldn’t. Not couldn’t. That was why the Lithuanian had enough presence of mind not to say where in South America.
“I don’t know my way around, so we’ll have to work out some way to find each other,” Toris paused, considering for a moment how tricky that would be, but decided to worry about that later. He smiled, still filled with that warm, animated feeling. “Tell your little bird thank you for me, Gil. He may have just made my week a bit more interesting.”
It was the closest Liet would come to communicating his gratitude to have, at last, an actual friend. He sat up, placing a hand to the headset, and nodded, “Saldus Sapnai, Gil. Talk to you tomorrow.”
