Name: Phuong Mai
Country of Origin: Vietnam
Gender Female
Age: 26
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 100 pounds
Appearance: A fairly beautiful asian woman with long black hair and slightly green-tinged brown eyes. Her hair is usually pulled back into a low pony-tail to keep it off of her face. Typically she wears outfits with longer sleeves that cover at least her upper arms, as she uses this to hide her scars. Her outfits are not extravagent, many are quite plain and functional, and she prefers to wear pants over skirts. There is a large collection of burn scars across her shoulders and back, which extend slightly down the upper part of both arms, none of which are ever seen by anyone as she keeps them hidden below her clothes. The scars form the vague outline of what could possibly be a bird in flight, rising up her back.
Crew member of: [What crew are you in? DO NOT FILL THIS OUT UNTIL ACCEPTED INTO A CREW]
Status: [Are you a captain or crew member? YOU MUST MARK YOURSELF AS CREW IF NOT CAPTAIN-APPROVED BY AN ADMIN!]
Pet: [ONLY the CAPTAIN of a crew may have a pet. Think of it as the captain's parrot or monkey. A mascot of sorts for the ship. Ignore this if you are not a captain.]
Crest: [FOR CAPTAINS ONLY! The Crest of your crew]
Personality: Phuong is usually a polite and respectful woman, quiet and very reserved with people. She is good at keeping her opinions to herself, which is probably a good thing, as she has judgements to pass on everyone and every thing. She would probably be quite naggy if not for her sense of honor keeping her from being disrespectful in any way. Considers her friends family and often calls them Brother or Sister, she will go to any lengths to protect them. Often described as a "momma bear" when it comes to protecting those she cares for, she is most dangerous when she is defending her family. While not usually aggressive, she can become so when it comes to people who have hurt her or her family, and it is hard to get her to let go of a grudge.
She likes to be among people she knows, and enjoys spending time with family especially. She is far more lively amongst those she cares for and trusts than she is with strangers. Her biggest fear is her flaws, and she is deathly afraid that if anyone finds out about her scars they will hate her because she is flawed. She has never been afraid to stand up for herself and her family, and has always felt more comfortable among the boys than the girls, because she feels that they are a little more accepting. Doesn't mind getting dirty, and doesn't mind rough housing or fighting, although she has grown considerably more cautious because she doesn't want to reveal her scars.
After the incident in her youth she has become more careful and slightly timid, but she is still essentially the same. However, there are signs that the seeds of schizophrenia may be developing in her mind slowly, as she occasionally hears things that aren't really there. She is very sensitive about her auditory hallucinations, and refuses to talk about them with anyone, and until they grow into an obvious problem, it will not be apparant that she suffers from them at all. She has also developed a minor fear of fire, and being around it makes her nervous, this is why she seeks the solace of the waters.
History: Grew up in a small village surrounded by friends and family. While she was not exceptionally close to any of them at the time, she still felt connected to them somehow. Although as far as she was aware they were not bound by blood, she still considered them her family. She would play with the other children, especially the boys, enjoying roughhousing with them on occasion. Her childhood was normal, up until the incident that would change her life forever in her early teen years.
The attack was unexpected, and she was caught in the middle. Instead of running and hiding like the others, her pride demanded she stand and fight. Driven by a desire to protect those she considered her brothers and sisters she fought hard, holding her own for a short time. Until of course she was outnumbered and overwhelmed. She was beaten and thrown backwards into one of the fires they had set within the village, and left for dead. Of course, she was far from dead. The fire would leave her scarred for the rest of her life, and with a mistrust and fear of flames. She can't remember how she got out of the flames, or how she survived, all she remembers is waking up in the care of a doctor with Yong Soo waiting for her.
He stuck around for a short while, making sure she was recovering alright, and over time the two came to bond closely. She began to call him Big Brother, and his arrival would always brighten her mood. Eventually though the day came when they had to part ways, he had a quest to complete, and he could wait no longer to bein it. He left her on good terms, telling her to come find him when she was well enough, a request she took to heart.
After his departure, she made up her mind to help him, knowing he wouldn't give up on family and feeling like she had to help him. The day after he left she set to work begging the doctor caring for her to teach her what he knew. She spent her time recovering studying him, learning from him how to help people and mend wounds. Even for some time after her wounds were healed she stuck around to learn more, before finally saying her farewell and setting out to find Yong Soo again.
Allegiance: Definately the Sea
How They Died: The fire was already on the horizon, but she was not afraid. War had come to her, had come to her people, and she would stand by them until the bitter end. She clutched her gun, her mind racing as her heart pounded. She didn't have the will to pull the trigger, but she knew she had to. She was doing this for family after all, they posed a threat to her Brothers, her Sister, everyone she cared about. Finding the strength to use her weapon she fired, letting her subconcious guide her, letting her mind slip into a state of relaxation. Behind her weapon and beside her people she felt invicible, nothing was going to stop her. Nothing was going to-
"Fall back"
She looked around in disbelief, something was wrong. She could hear the voice of someone powerful ordering her and her people back. Why? She wanted to cry out 'Why do we run?' but she did not. Her people were brave and strong, but as she looked around she could tell they were outnumbered. Retreat was the only wise option left she supposed. Squeezing off a few more rounds, watching in satisfaction as her bullets felled a few more enemy soldiers, she finally turned to run. It was then that the ground began to erupt into flames in the distance, breaking her lines. Of course, she thought, they have called in for the vultures to swoop down and breathe flames upon us.
No longer did she understand what was going on, the world was a blur. The sudden aerial seige had disoriented her, and she was no longer aware of her surroundings. The sounds of battle all around her seemed to dim and all she was thinking about was self preservation. She had to live to fight another day, she had to make it, she had to-
The air infront of her turned blinding white, she felt her head spin, felt a shockwave rock her body. There was a sensation of a wave of heat, greater than any she'd felt in her life, her body stun in a million places and then- nothing. The world went black as the flames consumed Vietnam, and she became nothing more than the ashes of a dead Phoenix.
