Personality:
Nikolaas is a guy that it can be very hard to get to know. He’s headstrong, rough, bossy and likes to be on top of everything. Over all a very dominating personality that can often hide behind a calm fascade. He also couldn't care less about other people's opinions of him, as he believes everyone is entitled to their own opinion on everything.
He’s not very fond of people he does not know very well – and as a result can be cold, intimidating and reserved when it comes to strangers. He’s not afraid, rather wary, and has a hard time trusting others but himself. Despite this, he's still very good at dealing with new people on a business level and can haggle down any price on any item if he really wants to.
He might seem like just a cold hearted business man, but deep down he does have a heart, it's just heavily guarded. Once one has gained his loyalty he will be fiercely loyal and protective back. Nikolaas is a strong fighter, but prefers to try and solve conflicts in a diplomatic and reasonable way - violence is plan B if being diplomatic gets him no where. But even in a fight, it might take a lot to for his calm demanor to disapear - and showing fear is a big no-no.
Debate is a favorite past time of his, and after a few drinks will often start arguments just for the sake of starting one. However, Nikolaas is still respectful over others ideas and opinions, but if someone restricts his freedom, he will fiercely defend his right to speak his mind and do as he wishes.
History:
Nikolaas grew up as the oldest of 3 children in a merchant family. He has two younger sisters, who he dots on and loves to bits, but he looks nothing like his siblings, or his parants - something wich lead him to to assume from and early age that he was adopted.(He has yet to let on to his parants that this is what he thinks, he believes it will hurt them)
His father trained him from an early age to become an excellent tradesman - teaching him how to evaluate goods and offer suitable prices for the items, and made him appreciate hard work and effort put into a job. His father also taught him the value of money - which has resulted in Nikolaas becoming rather stingy over the years, despite having amounted a small fortune. As he got older, Nikolaas realized that while being a merchant might bring in good legal money, there are ways to gain even bigger riches - the black market.
He quickly discovered that a very large profit could be made in drug shipments, and in his father's cargo ships he'd smuggle crates of opium and other drugs. No one is his family caught on to his illegal business so when he was old enough to start his own trades company, he did it all seemingly legally, but kept up the black market goods as well.
But he's very careful and secretive about it, as he does not want his family to find out - he does not want to let them down or disappoint his father.
He also is very overprotective over his younger siblings, and only wants the best in life for them. He knows very well they can take care of themselves, but he still worries like mad about them.
On one voyage his ship and crew where attacked by pirates, and he ended up shipwrecked in Tortuga. While trying to find route back home Nikolaas gets a job at the market and slowly builds up a new business there. Several people come and go, and after a while he starts to hear about various crews venturing all over the world- in search of great treasure.
This makes the young Dutch man very intrigued, and via customer connections he tries to find a way to join one of these adventurous crews. His aim being to one day have his very own crew, and venture out on his own for the rumored great treasure.
(he has no clear memory of being a nation, but certain people or places seem to trigger the memories locked deep within his mind - the goverment have tried to ceep it hidden from him as much as possible becuse they though he would be easier to controll and protect that way. However that plan seems to have gone downhill. He often get's teh feeling he's not quite like the rest of his family, but he doesn't want to question it, as he's worried what the outcome might be)
How he died:
There had been so much death...so much noise and so much pain. After the invasion everything was going downhill. Netherland didn't have enough food to feed his people, and that alone was painful enough. But right now, on the smoking battlefield, Nikolaas couldn't think about those things. He had to find Belgium and Luxembourg!
Running through the trenches he spotted two familiar figures, jumping and skidding he nearly dropped on top of the two shorter females.
"Hallo!" he greeted them with the biggest grin he could muster. "You're both looking as gorgeous as ever" this was perhaps the biggest lie in the history of mankind, as none of them looked well at all. But fuck it all. These where his sisters, the least he could do was try and cheer them up.
Bullets could be heard ricocheting off dead soldiers helmets, but Nikolaas just shrugged...there was nothing he could do for them.
"I've got orders of moving you further down in the trenches. It's too risky to leave you here now. The enemy is advancing..." with that he grabbed a hold of them both and started dragging them along in the deep tranches. "Right...lay lo---"
Netherland didn't even get to finish his sentence before an enemy soldier jumped down into the trench and fired his gun at them.
His first reaction was to push Luxembourg and Belgium away before diving at the soldier. He could feel something in his chest, but ignored it as he struggled with the soldier.
A cut to the throat with his knife ended the struggle, but when Netherlands tried to stand up and turn around to face his sisters, he found no strength in his legs. Trying to blink away the creeping darkness at the edge of his vision, he tried to make out the blurred shapes before him...but he was slowly loosing consciousness.
'no..no...This can't be happening. Not now. They're not safe yet!' his mind was racing for a solution, but none came. The icy cold pain in his chest was spreading...and he couldn't stop it.
Collapsing down on the muddy trench floor, the only words he could muster out was a weak "I'm sorry...my… fault..."
Darkness overtook him, easing the pain, but not the worry.
Allegiance: Sea Pirate (although...if he join the Air ones..He'll be a proper flying Dutchman)
