Name: Ah, Toris. Toris Laurinaitis. ^^
Country of Origin: Lithuania.
Gender …D-Definitely male;;In spite of first impressions;;
Age: 19, and counting. ^^
Height: 5’6” (173 cm)
Weight: 148 lbs.
Appearance:
A forest-eyed youth with soft but serious features, Toris possesses one of those faces one is automatically inclined to trust as capable and understanding. Framed by thick shoulder-length brunet hair, occasionally tied back by a ponytail, the Lithuanian is fairly used to being mistaken as a girl, and while he will firmly correct the misconception, it doesn’t bother him as much as it would most men his age.
When he is troubled or distressed, Toris dons a particularly distinctive expression, which actually seems to draw more conflict than usual. Toris is not fully aware why this is, not being fully aware of how expressive his face is, and the effect it can have on people.
Lean in figure, with the exception of rather femininely wide hips, people often misjudge the fighting power of the young Eastern European—what he lacks in strength Toris more than makes up for in speed and dexterity, trusting on quick reflexes to carry him where brute force may not. For weaponry, Toris is understandably a bit rough. He knows how to punch, kick, block, and dodge, but beyond that he’ll often rely on improvisation. Highly observant under pressure, he can usually devise a quick tactic to gain the upper hand.
However, the Lithuanian possesses an unusual weakness; his back is bizarrely sensitized, and the slightest firm brush can provoke an unconscious and involuntary shiver. To compensate, the Lithuanian often wears shirts and vests with padded backs, which he often has to alter himself to make the clothing inconspicuous. As far as clothing goes, Toris likes to keep it simple—soft earth tones, easy to maintain, and often uniform-like in nature, even in casual wear.
He is not at all opposed to wearing aprons, though he will balk at more feminine wear. Especially high-heels.
Which is not to say you can’t convince him nudgenudgewinkwink
Crew member of: The Metall Podsolnuh
Status: Captain
Crest: Officially, The Metal Sunflower, but, privately, he uses the Iron Wolf.
Personality:
The first thing that people are inclined to say on Toris is that he is a very naturally pleasant person--polite, well-spoken, perhaps a bit timid but always willing to learn something new, and always willing to lend a helpful hand to those who need it. They could say a word on his delightful acuity, and his fondness for intellectually stimulating conversation. There may be praise on his ability as a useful worker, quick and determined, with an emphasis on quality and a care for detail.
They may perhaps comment on his empathic nature, on his ability to listen without judging, to advise without pushing, and, most surprisingly, to quickly anticipate another’s desires before the party seems aware of it himself. There may be hushed murmurs on his altruism, of his consideration of others, and genuine concern for their well-being. All of this, and with an absolute minimum of expectations, and no demands whatsoever. A very understanding person, and kind.
They may say a lot of things, and some of them true, yet without knowing any more about the Lithuanian than the next passerby. For, even though Toris is an accommodating person on the whole, the Lithuanian can also be unexpectedly distant at the flip of a switch, hiding his true feelings behind a carefully crafted smile and cold efficiency.
In reality quite prideful, Toris is not comfortable with showing people the ugly side of him, nor with acknowledging that he has one. He may recluse himself, hiding away in his own head, and bitterly nurse grudges, all without even the mere hint of a complaint. On his rare off moments, this may translate into a scathing sarcasm and a cynical wit, mostly internalized until the moment passes. In genuine anger, there is very little that remains of the pleasant little inn-keep’s son, leaving a cruel and harsh-tongued stranger in its wake.
On the inside, Toris is actually capable of being a fairly black-humored person, raging both at the cruelness and callousness of the world at large and his perceived inability to do much to stand against it. He may question the motives of others, not precisely trusting them once they have done whatever small thing to lower themselves in his esteem, and is prone to feelings of isolation more often than he’d like to admit.
With that said, there are few people as willing to martyr themselves in the name of his friends than Toris, though he would rather be a mutual survivor. When he cares about someone, he cares deeply, and loyally, until Judgment Day and beyond. The mark of his affections is a seemingly uncharacteristic recklessness, a bone-deep sincerity and openness that goes to show just how much more there is to Toris than a soft smile.
History:
Born to an unconventional family of Lithuanian immigrants, Toris has been a citizen of the Floating City for as long as he can remember, knowing very little about his own family but much on his ethnic identity. Seeking to escape homophobic persecution for both themselves and their son, Toris’ father and father-figure established a bed-and-breakfast at the Wind Skirts, the local name for the city’s main air-docks. Very much in love with both each other and their family, the two males did their utmost to carve a life for themselves and raise their child in the best way possible.
Constantly struggling to make ends meet, Toris’ parents unfortunately were not able to allow the boy as much time for play as other parents could, nor even a formally structured education, but the brunet made up for that by learning from the inn’s customers, often without their notice. Since the inn catered to an endless variety of tourists, merchants, and even the occasional sky-pirate, there was always at least one odd job that could make use of a growing young boy that was as quick on his feet as his mind.
In this fashion, Toris picked up and learnt many diverse skills, including shorthand, knot-tying, first-aid, basic meteorology and navigation, card-games, and much more, in addition to the necessary domestic, business, and social aspects intrinsic into growing up as an inn keep’s son. As he grew older, Toris also gained an academic inclination, whiling away whatever few precious idle moments he had pouring into world literature and history, for which he had an almost uncanny sort of knack.
At the ripe age of nineteen, Toris aggressive educational pursuits paid off in the form of a rare opportunity to study at a real university on the mainland, right in the heart of his ancestral home, Vilnius. Now, as a young man freshly thrown from the roost, Toris is on board an air-ship headed into the wild blue world, bright-eyed and full of promise. Little does he know, though, the very drastic turn his life is about to take…
Allegiance: Bound to the Metall Podsolnuh, and thus, a Sky Pirate.
